RESIDENCY FOR ARTISTS

Design competition for an artist residency in Helsinki.

Finland is among the largest European producers of wood, and how can we not think of Finland as the cradle of design? These are the two concepts of this project: a stack of wooden planks and a sculpture. The stack covers the entire area with common spaces, classrooms, workplaces and exhibition space, while the sculpture houses the residences and a cafeteria on the mezzanine top floor, with panoramic views over the entire city. The sculpture is a tower, a work of art that wants to mark the place like a lighthouse: tall, bright and visible. This space wants to enhance artistic talents with the possibility of weaving a close sharing relationship with residents, visitors or tourists.
